RockAUTO layering structure is entirely customisable to whatever company standard you wish to set it to. The existing RockAUTO model draws all object colours, linetypes, lineweights & plot styles (if used) BYLAYER. In this way sharing of CAD files becomes easier allowing individuals to view & print drawings in the manner they are accustomed. Additionally by using a BYLAYER system we can easily modify the properties of groups of objects quickly, by modifying the layer properties without needing to slowly selecting each object individually.

Discipline Layer Code (1 character mandatory)
Primary Layer Code (4 characters mandatory)
Line Weight Code (2 digits mandatory)
Linetype Code (2 to 6 characters mandatory)
Additional Information (optional)
Discipline Layer Code (1 character mandatory)
This identifies the type of works for the object & will generally be the same as the drawing number prefix. Eg for a drawing number M01 the layers within this drawing will begin with ‘M_’
Primary Layer Code (4 characters mandatory)
This identifies the type of object. Eg all Ductwork shall use a primary layer code of ‘Duct’
Line Weight Code (2 digits mandatory)
This identifies the line weight of the layer.
‘13’ 0.13mm Thick pen
‘18’ 0.18mm Thick pen
‘25’ 0.25mm Thick pen
‘35’ 0.35mm Thick pen
‘50’ 0.50mm Thick pen
‘70’ 0.70mm Thick pen
‘10’ 1.00mm Thick pen
Linetype Code (2 to 6 characters mandatory)
This identifies the linetype of the layer. Eg If the linetype of the layer is Hidden then the Linetype code shall be ‘hd’. ‘co’ shall be used for continuous.
Additional Information (optional)
This identifies extra information required to further split objects into layer groups. ie a layer called ‘M_Duct25co_Exist’ will be created for existing ductwork were ‘M_Duct25co’ is needed for new ductwork.
Text, Leader lines, dimensions & attributes should be put on the layer @_Text##co where @ indicates the discipline code and ## indicates the thickness ie 25.
All xrefs should be placed on a layer called ‘Z_Xref13co_Filename’.
Mviews to be drawn on layer defpoints & made colour 15.
_Exist should be post fixed to the layer name for existing items.
_Demo should be post fixed to the layer name for items which are to be demolished.
Non plotting layers should be set to colour 15.
No objects shall be drawn on layer 0 with the exception of some entities within blocks.
